Hemp Vs Marijuana

Hemp Vs Marijuana

Cannabis

Distinguishing between Hemp and Marijuana can be confusing at first. Why? Because they are both from the Cannabis family.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)

The main point of differentiation between Marijuana and Hemp is the level of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which is the main Cannabinoid that can trigger intoxicating effects (i.e. can get you high). THC is found in high concentration in marijuana whereas to be called hemp or industrial hemp, the THC level in most countries must be below 0.3%.

Cannabidiol (CBD)

Both hemp and marijuana plants contain Cannabidiol (CBD) which is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that is increasingly being understood to have many promising medical applications.

Uses and Functionality

Hemp is completely different from marijuana in its function, cultivation and application. Whereas Marijuana is used primarily for medical and recreational purposes, hemp is used in a wide variety of food, fuel, skin care, clothing, industrial products, building products and has emerging potential in advanced materials.
